Ethiopia was the only country in the African continent to send ground troops to help Korea. Supporting the importance of collective security, the Ethiopian emperor formed a new battalion of the imperial guard. This new battalion was named the Kagnew Battalion and sent to Korea. Kagnew means ‘to defeat’ in Amharic. The Kagnew Battalion left Ethiopia on April 14th, 1951, and arrived at Busan Port on May 6th. This battalion was assigned to the 7th U.S. Division and fought in about 250 battles, including battles in Hwacheon and Yanggu. The Ethiopian Army won most of its battles. After the signing of the armistice agreement Ethiopia ended its missions in January 1965 by withdrawing completely from Korea. In May 1951, the Colombian Navy was dispatched to the Korean seas. In June of the same year, the ground troops arrived at Busan Port as the last of the UN Forces. The Colombian Army was assigned to the 24th U.S. Division and carried out its first battle in Heuguntoryeong. Columbia achieved brilliant war results in many areas, such as the Battle of Kumsong, Battle of Inje, and Battle of Old Baldy in Yeoncheon.
