After the outbreak of the Korean War, Sweden responded to the UN resolution and informed its intention to pay the expenses for a red cross hospital on July 14th. About 600 medical professionals volunteered from various parts of Sweden, and 170 volunteers were sent with Colonel Carl Erik Groth. The Swedish medical corps was named the Swedish Red Cross Hospital (SRCH). Starting on September 25th, 1950, the SRCH treated many UN soldiers, Korean soldiers and civilians. The SRCH continued to treat the war-wounded for nearly one year after the armistice until they left Korea and returned home in July 1954. Sweden cooperated with Denmark and Norway to establish and operate a medical center (what is now the National Medical Center) in Seoul until April 1957, making tremendous contributions to the advancement of medical practice in Korea. India performed several important activities and roles in the UN. At the outbreak of the Korean War, India sent the 60th Parachute Field Ambulance with 341 troops commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Rangaraj.
