Germany offered the United States and UN to send a field hospital in April 1953. In 1954, Germany was approved as an official relief organization by the UN Civil Assistance Corps to establish and operate the Red Cross Hospital. The hospital opened officially on May 17th, 1954, and was dedicated to treat 300,000 patients and help 6,000 pregnant women deliver their children until March 14th, 1959. As a medical institution under the UN Forces in Korea, the Red Cross Hospital practiced the humanitarian ideology by providing medical services to Korean patients who were too poor to receive medical benefits.
